Grizzlies Fire David Fizdale
The Grizzlies head coach, David Fizdale, was fired Monday, November 27th, 2017.
David Fizdale was fired because of his tepid relationship with his all star center, Marc Gasol. He benched Gasol in the 4th quarter against the Nets when it was a close game. The Grizzlies lost that game. It is hard to win games when your coach and star player have a bad relationship. Mike Conley, the starting point guard, has been injured since November 13th. The Grizzlies were on a 8 game losing streak before Fizdale was fired. Last year, 2016-17, the Grizzlies record under Fizdale was 43-39. He started his career in 1997 in the video office with the Miami Heat. He was then an assistant coach for the Warriors, Hawks. Then returned to Miami as an assistant coach in 2008.
The Grizzlies have started off this season with 7 wins and 12 losses. The Grizzlies have made it to the playoffs 10 years out of their 16 seasons in the NBA. They have no championships. In 2017, they lost in the first round of the playoffs. The Grizzlies interim coach is J.B Bickerstaff. Bickerstaff was 34-37 as interim head coach with the Houston Rockets in 2015-2016.
The Grizzlies have been a threat in the Western conference over the past few years but it may be time for them to re-evaluate their future. Gasol is 33 years old and Conley cannot seem to stay healthy for long. It will be interesting to see what the Grizzlies decide to do in the next few years.
